Significance of Australia Day and 5 Ways to Celebrate It with Your Pet

About Australia Day…

Australia Day is commemorated every year on the 26th of January. The day marks the anniversary of arrival of the First Fleet at Port Jackson in New South Wales in 1788 and the raising of the Union flag by Arthur Phillip following exploration. This Fleet was sent by British Admiralty and it included 11 ships that set sail from Portsmouth to Australia, carrying the first prisoners which became the first European settlement in Australia.

Australia Day is an official national holiday dedicated to honoring the aspects of our country that we admire. Although the meaning and significance of Australia Day have evolved over time, it is mostly celebrated to honor and acknowledge the country’s culture, multicultural community and diverse landscapes. Aussies celebrate this day of national pride by flying the country’s flag and by attending outdoor concerts, community barbecues, sports competitions, festivals and fireworks.

And while we are talking about celebrations and all things incredible, how can we forget our pets on this special day?  Australians love pets, and therefore, they must do something special to make this day special for them. VetSupply has figured out a few interesting ways to keep your pets happy on this Australia Day.

Celebrating Australia Day with Your Pets…

Aussie-Themed Dress-Up

People go crazy dressing up in blue-red-white or green and golden all over Australia on this day. You can help your pet slay in the same colors by dressing them up in Aussie-themed costumes and accessories. You can get those patriotic flag-themed bandanas, bow-ties, dog t-shirts, or jumpers for your pet and help them turn heads! Do not forget to click and share your pet’s snazzy pictures with us through our Photo of the Month Contest to win exciting prizes.

Beach Fun

Australia is known for its spectacular beaches. Hitting a sun-soaked coastline where you can enjoy fun activities like surfing and snorkeling, or where you two can enjoy swimming and sunbathing all day is also a great option. You can also attend one of the parties happening at these gleaming beauties at night to mark the celebrations.

BBQ’s and Treats

Delicious smells and food can get your pet drooling. Since BBQs are an integral part of Australian culture, why not go for one with your pet or organize a BBQ party at your own place. However, do not feed your dog any party foods; instead, give them their favourite treats and pet food to make them happy. Also, make sure you keep an eye on your dog all the time to avoid any mishaps.

Walkies and Drives

Pets love going out on walks or drives, especially with their favorite people. Australia is a beautiful country where there are a number of places with magnificent views, where you can drive around with your dog, or take a short walk. Your pooch will definitely enjoy the variety of smells on your way!

Netflix and shopping!

Sometimes, relaxing with your floof is the best thing to do! If you’ve got a tight schedule for Australia Day celebrations, we would suggest you take out a few hours to relax. You can chill with your pet while watching a web series or a movie on Netflix before you resume your tight schedules the next day.
