Fascinating Facts about Dogs – Know Your Pet!

Dogs are our best friends and our constant companions. It’s obvious that dog lovers would want to know everything about their lovely four-legged friends. In this blog, we have come up with 5 interesting facts about dogs that will blow your mind. So, let’s begin!

#1 A dog’s sense of smell is 100,000 times more sensitive than humans.

Did you know that a dog’s brain cell area that detects smells is about 50 times larger than that of humans? They have about 300 million smell receptors, whereas we humans have only 5 million receptors. This is why dogs are sniffing wizards and can recognise people and places from a distance. Their exceptional smelling ability is why today we can trust them to sniff out people, drugs, money, and even medical conditions.

#2 Some dogs can beat a cheetah in a race!

Dog and cheetah race

Some dog breeds, like Greyhounds, can run so fast that they can even beat a cheetah in a race. Greyhounds can run at a speed of approximately 35 miles per hour. Cheetahs are one of the fastest animals on Earth, as they can run at a speed of 70 miles (which is double the speed of a dog), but they can maintain this speed for only about 30 seconds. This means a cheetah may start off faster, but a dog will eventually overtake the race!

#3 Dog’s don’t sweat like humans.

Whether dogs sweat or not is a debatable topic for many dog lovers. Some people say that dogs can’t sweat, but the fact is that sweating is normal for dogs too. However, they don’t sweat like us humans. You may not find their armpits laden with watery liquid, but they produce a pheromone in their paw pads that we humans can’t detect. This is why it is easier to fail to suspect dehydration in dogs during the hotter days.

#4 Dogs are amazing swimmers. Three dogs even survived the Titanic sinking.

Most dogs love swimming. They swim so incredibly well that, according to reports, three dogs, including two Pomeranian and a Pekingese, were able to rescue the historic Titanic shipwreck. Newfoundland, a large dog breed that originated in Canada, is also known for its extraordinary water rescue abilities. They have a natural instinct to rescue people in water and are therefore ideal companions for lifeguarding and water rescue teams.

#5 Dogs have an incredible memory.

Studies suggest that dogs have a remarkable memory. Some dogs can remember more than 200 different places and people. Some of them have such strong associations and episodic memories that they can store events in their memory for years. You may think that your dog is living in the moment, but what they are actually doing is forming memories all the time.
